Private Network: Verizon Business Private 5G and MPLS IP VPN for Regulated Workloads

Verizon Business Private Network covers two dedicated paths: Verizon Private 5G for on-premises cellular coverage at campuses, warehouses, factories, ports and hospitals, and Verizon MPLS IP VPN for site-to-site layer-3 private routing across the Verizon backbone. Both products share zero physical infrastructure with the public internet. Nokia and Ericsson partner on the RAN; AWS Outposts, Azure Stack Edge or bare-metal servers host the private core.

Deployed to manufacturing, mining, logistics, energy, healthcare and defence customers across the United States. FCC-licensed CBRS 3.5 GHz and C-band spectrum, NIST Cybersecurity Framework aligned, SOC 2 Type II audited. Every Private Network site rolls up under one Verizon Business account.

Verizon Private Network: Two Dedicated Paths

The Private Network portfolio addresses two distinct problems — wireless coverage at the site boundary, and private routing between sites — with two purpose-built products often deployed together as Hybrid WAN.

Verizon Private 5G On-Premises

Verizon Private 5G delivers a dedicated 5G radio fabric sized to the customer site. Nokia or Ericsson RAN radios are deployed across the plant, warehouse or campus; a private 5G core runs on AWS Outposts, Azure Stack Edge or bare-metal servers on-site. User-plane traffic stays inside the premises. CBRS 3.5 GHz spectrum is licensed to the customer under an FCC Priority Access Licence.

Verizon MPLS IP VPN

Verizon MPLS IP VPN is layer-3 private routing across the Verizon MPLS backbone. Each site joins a customer-specific VRF; the MPLS fabric provides any-to-any routing with QoS markings for voice, video and data. Speeds from 1 Mbps access up to 10 Gbps. MPLS IP VPN never routes over the public internet. Often pairs with SD-WAN overlay for application-aware policy atop the MPLS underlay.

Nokia and Ericsson RAN Partnerships

Verizon Business Private 5G is vendor-neutral on the RAN. Nokia AirScale and Ericsson Radio System are both supported. Customers can standardise on one vendor or mix per site. The Verizon Business engineering team owns RF planning, site survey, install and ongoing radio-layer optimisation inside the Private 5G contract.

Private Core on AWS or Azure

The Private 5G core — AMF, SMF, UPF, NRF and the full 5G control plane — runs on AWS Outposts or Azure Stack Edge on-site. Cloud-native 5G core means firmware updates flow from the hyperscaler, scaling is elastic, and the same DevOps pipeline the customer uses for IT extends to the Private Network control plane.

Private Network Technologies Compared

Match the Private Network technology to the site footprint, latency envelope and ownership requirement.

Where Private Network Deployments Land

Private Network is not consumer wireless in an enterprise wrapper. It is a purpose-built RAN and core for industries where Wi-Fi drops frames, public 5G shares capacity, and the public internet cannot carry the workload.

Private 5G for Manufacturing and Industry 4.0

A tier-1 automotive plant runs 600 automated guided vehicles (AGVs), dozens of robotic cells and hundreds of machine-vision cameras across a 1.2 million square foot floor. Wi-Fi roaming dropped AGV commands at lift truck crossings; public LTE congested during shift changes. A Verizon Private 5G network with Nokia AirScale radios covers the full floor with sub-20 ms latency, exclusive-use CBRS spectrum and determinism the plant's PLC layer can treat as a wireline connection.

The customer AGV vendor ships 5G modems pre-profiled for the Private 5G core; inventory scans at the receiving dock run through the same Private Network fabric.

MPLS IP VPN for Regulated Multi-Site

A regional bank runs 30 US branches plus three data centres. Trading voice, wire transfer and core banking traffic cannot touch the public internet per examiner expectations. A Verizon MPLS IP VPN puts every site in the same VRF, any-to-any routed with per-class SLAs on latency and loss. The trading voice queue is prioritised with low-latency markings; bulk data rides the default queue. No site-to-site flow exits the Verizon backbone.

Attach Verizon SD-WAN on top for application-aware steering to SaaS (Salesforce, Microsoft 365) directly from the branch rather than hair-pinning to HQ.

Private 5G for Ports, Mining and Hospitals

Ports deploy Verizon Private 5G for crane automation and gate operations across outdoor footprints measured in square miles. Mining operations use Private 5G for autonomous haul trucks where public cellular is absent. Hospitals use Private 5G for clinical roaming handsets and medical IoT across multi-building campuses. Utilities use Private 5G for substation SCADA inside fenced compounds. Each deployment sizes the RAN density to the footprint and the device count.

NIST SP 800-53 Access Control, Audit and Identification controls apply at the Private Network edge. NIST guidance on industrial networks treats private wireless as an equivalent-to-wireline access layer.

Private Network in 60 Seconds

A compressed walkthrough of Private 5G and MPLS IP VPN inside the Verizon Business portfolio.

Private Network Profile

  • Verizon Private 5G is on-premises cellular — Nokia or Ericsson RAN, private core on AWS Outposts or Azure Stack Edge.
  • CBRS 3.5 GHz and C-band spectrum, FCC Priority Access Licence for exclusive-use bands.
  • Verizon MPLS IP VPN is site-to-site layer-3 private routing, 1 Mbps to 10 Gbps, no public internet transit.
  • Hybrid WAN combines Private 5G on-site with MPLS IP VPN between sites.
  • Use cases: manufacturing, mining, ports, logistics, hospitals, utilities and regulated multi-site enterprises.

Private 5G for Manufacturing

AGV control, robotic cells, machine vision, PLC telemetry on sub-20 ms Private 5G with exclusive CBRS spectrum and no public carrier involvement.

MPLS IP VPN for Banking

Regulated multi-site routing inside one VRF with per-class SLAs — trading voice, core banking and wire transfer stay on the Verizon private backbone.

Hybrid Private Network

Private 5G on the factory floor feeds MPLS IP VPN back to the regional DC and Verizon Global IP to cloud — one end-to-end Verizon Business path.

Every Private Network deployment is governed by a named Verizon Business project manager, a radio-frequency engineer and a core architect during build, then a 24/7 managed-service desk post-activation. All Private Network tickets consolidate inside the Verizon Business login alongside wireless, Fios and VoIP tickets.
